The Xbox 360 launched in North America on November 22, 2005.
Microsoft released the console as the successor to the original Xbox, beginning the seventh console generation for the company. Its launch preceded the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii in North America, giving Microsoft an early position in that generation.
The Xbox 360 introduced a redesigned user interface, Xbox Live Marketplace downloads, achievements, and a wireless controller as standard features. It was released in several configurations, including Core and Premium models, with differences in storage and accessories.
The Xbox 360 is sometimes confused with the Xbox One because both names describe successors to earlier Xbox hardware. The Xbox One launched in 2013, while the Xbox 360 arrived eight years earlier. Microsoft later released revised Xbox 360 models, including the slimmer Xbox 360 S and Xbox 360 E.
