Which Xbox console introduced Xbox Live when the service launched in 2002?

The story behind the answer

The original Xbox introduced Xbox Live when Microsoft launched the service in 2002.

Xbox Live was Microsoft’s online gaming and digital services network for the original Xbox. Unlike later consoles, the original system did not include built-in Wi-Fi, so players generally connected through Ethernet or a compatible broadband setup.

The service officially launched on November 15, 2002, one year after the console’s North American debut. Early Xbox Live games included MechAssault, which became an important example of online console gaming on the platform.

Xbox Live later expanded substantially on Xbox 360, adding achievements, a broader marketplace, and richer social features. Xbox Live’s modern services were eventually rebranded under Xbox network terminology, but the original service began on the first Xbox.
