The Xbox One introduced built-in voice-assistant integration with Kinect.
At launch, Microsoft designed the Xbox One around the Kinect 2.0 sensor and promoted voice commands as a central part of the user experience. Owners could use spoken commands such as “Xbox, go home” to navigate menus, switch applications, and control entertainment features. The console’s software also integrated with Microsoft’s voice assistant Cortana in later updates, although Cortana’s Xbox functionality was eventually removed.
This answer refers to the Xbox One console generation, not the original Kinect accessory’s debut. Kinect first appeared on Xbox 360 in 2010 under the name Project Natal. The Xbox One version used improved cameras and microphones and initially came bundled with the console.
Microsoft later stopped requiring Kinect for Xbox One and sold the console without the sensor. Xbox Series X and Series S do not include Kinect hardware.
