Which Welsh peninsula contains the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty?

The story behind the answer

Gower Peninsula contains the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in south Wales.

The peninsula extends westward from Swansea between Swansea Bay and Carmarthen Bay. It became the United Kingdom’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956. Gower is known for sandy beaches, limestone cliffs, coastal paths, dunes and archaeological sites.

Rhossili Bay is one of its best-known landscapes, with Worm’s Head visible offshore at the western end. The peninsula also contains prehistoric burial monuments, medieval remains and villages such as Mumbles near its eastern edge. Farming continues inland, while tourism is especially important along the coast.

Gower is often confused with the Llyn Peninsula in northwestern Wales. Llyn is much farther north, beyond Cardigan Bay, while Gower is attached to Swansea and projects into the Bristol Channel area. The two have different landscapes and administrative histories.
