Which Australian peninsula contains the Mornington Peninsula National Park south of Melbourne?

The story behind the answer

Mornington Peninsula contains Mornington Peninsula National Park south of Melbourne.

The peninsula lies in Victoria between Port Phillip Bay to the west and Western Port to the east, with Bass Strait along its southern coast. It is one of Melbourne’s major coastal recreation areas and includes beaches, farmland, vineyards, seaside towns and protected habitats.

Mornington Peninsula National Park protects coastal landscapes including cliffs, dunes, beaches and headlands. The peninsula is also known for tourism, wineries, hot springs and ferry connections across Port Phillip Bay. Mornington and Sorrento are among its best-known towns.

It is often confused with the Bellarine Peninsula, which lies on the opposite, western side of Port Phillip Bay. Mornington is southeast of Melbourne, while Bellarine extends westward from the Geelong area. Both are Victorian peninsulas associated with Port Phillip Bay, but they are separate landforms.
