Which Polish peninsula extends into the Baltic Sea from the Gulf of Gdańsk?
Answer
Hel Peninsula
Answer
Hel Peninsula
Hel Peninsula extends into the Baltic Sea from Poland’s Gulf of Gdańsk.
This narrow, sandy spit forms a curved barrier along the northern side of the Gulf of Puck. It is connected to mainland Poland near Władysławowo and ends at the town of Hel, which gives the peninsula its name.
The peninsula developed through coastal deposition and shifting sand. Its beaches, dunes and maritime setting have made it a long-standing tourism destination, with resorts including Jurata, Jastarnia and Hel.
The Hel Peninsula also has a significant military history. Fortifications were built there during the twentieth century, and the area was strategically important because it controls access to the Gulf of Gdańsk. It should not be confused with the entire Gulf of Puck or with Poland’s larger Wolin Island.
