Which Welsh club first played in the Premier League in the 2011-12 season?

The story behind the answer

Swansea City was the first Welsh club to play in the Premier League, doing so in the 2011–12 season. Swansea earned promotion by beating Reading 4–2 in the 2011 Championship play-off final, with Scott Sinclair scoring a hat-trick.

The achievement was historic because the Premier League had been founded in 1992, yet no Welsh club had appeared in it during its first 19 seasons. Swansea had previously reached the old English top flight in 1981–82, but their 2011 promotion marked their Premier League debut and their return to top-flight football after a long absence.

Swansea finished an impressive 11th in their first Premier League campaign under manager Brendan Rodgers. Cardiff City later became the second Welsh club in the Premier League, debuting in 2013–14. Newport County and Wrexham are Welsh clubs, but neither had played in the Premier League.
