Which vocalist replaced Bruce Dickinson in Iron Maiden from 1994 to 1999?

The story behind the answer

Blaze Bayley replaced Bruce Dickinson as Iron Maiden’s vocalist from 1994 to 1999.

Bayley, born Bayley Alexander Cooke, was previously the singer for the British heavy-metal band Wolfsbane. Wolfsbane had supported Iron Maiden on the 1990 No Prayer on the Road tour, so the two groups already had a professional connection before Dickinson’s departure.

Iron Maiden selected Bayley after Dickinson left in 1993. Bayley sang on two studio albums: The X Factor, released in 1995, and Virtual XI, released in 1998. His darker vocal character matched the more somber mood of The X Factor, an album strongly influenced by bassist and songwriter Steve Harris’s personal difficulties at the time.

Bayley’s tenure ended in January 1999. Vocal problems during the Virtual XI World Tour contributed to the split, though band members later acknowledged that some songs were pitched outside his natural range. Bruce Dickinson returned that year, while Bayley continued with a solo career and later performed under the name Blaze Bayley.
