Which Motörhead drummer was nicknamed 'Philthy Animal'?

The story behind the answer

The Motörhead drummer nicknamed “Philthy Animal” was Phil Taylor.

Born Philip John Taylor in 1954, Taylor joined Motörhead in 1975 and became part of the band’s classic lineup with bassist and vocalist Lemmy Kilmister and guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clarke. His hard-hitting drumming helped define the band’s fast, abrasive sound.

Taylor left Motörhead in 1984 but returned in 1987, remaining until 1992. Across his two periods with the group, he recorded eleven studio albums and four live albums. His nickname is sometimes confused with those of other famous rock drummers, including Cozy Powell, but “Philthy Animal” specifically refers to Taylor.

Taylor died in London in 2015 at age 61. Lemmy and Clarke, the other members of Motörhead’s best-known lineup, died within the following few years.
