The Swedish band that released the 1993 death metal album “Wolverine Blues” was Entombed.
Released by Earache Records on August 31, 1993, Wolverine Blues was Entombed’s third studio album. It marked the return of vocalist Lars-Göran “L.G.” Petrov, who had appeared on the group’s debut album, Left Hand Path.
The record is especially notable because Entombed expanded beyond its earlier death-metal sound. Its heavier rock grooves and mid-tempo approach helped establish the style later called death ’n’ roll. That shift made Wolverine Blues influential, even though it initially surprised listeners familiar with the band’s rawer early work.
A common mix-up is confusing Entombed with other major Swedish death-metal bands such as Grave, Unleashed, or Dismember. Those groups were part of the same influential scene, but Wolverine Blues belongs specifically to Entombed’s discography.
