Which variety series won at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards with John Oliver as its title host?

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver won Best Variety Series at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards.

The HBO program is hosted by John Oliver and is known for extended satirical reports about politics, public policy, media, and social issues. Its format generally centers on one main subject rather than a sequence of celebrity interviews.

The award category differs from Best Talk Show. Jimmy Kimmel Live! won that separate category, while Last Week Tonight was recognized as a variety series. The distinction reflects the programs’ different structures even though both include topical comedy.

John Oliver’s program has received major awards throughout its run, often for combining investigative research with a strongly comic presentation. The 2026 Critics Choice honor recognized the series itself rather than a single episode or individual performance.
