Frankenstein earned Kate Hawley the 2026 Critics Choice Award for Best Costume Design.
Hawley designed the costumes for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, a period adaptation inspired by Mary Shelley’s classic novel. The category recognized the costume work that helped establish the film’s historical setting, social distinctions, and gothic atmosphere.
Frankenstein was one of the ceremony’s two leading film winners, tying Sinners with four awards. In addition to costume design, it won Best Supporting Actor for Jacob Elordi, Best Production Design for Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau, and Best Hair and Makeup for Mike Hill, Jordan Samuel, and Cliona Furey.
The award is sometimes confused with Best Production Design because both categories shape a film’s visual world. Costume design focuses on clothing and wearable character appearance, while production design covers environments, sets, and broader visual spaces. Hawley’s win was therefore separate from Frankenstein’s production-design victory.
