U2’s song that won the 2001 Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal was “Beautiful Day.”
“Beautiful Day” was released in 2000 as the lead single from U2’s album All That You Can’t Leave Behind. At the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2001, it won three awards, including Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year.
The song marked a return to a more direct rock sound after the electronic and dance-oriented style associated with much of the 1990s. Its lyrics describe finding joy and possibility despite loss, giving the track an uplifting tone that helped make it one of U2’s signature songs.
The later U2 single “Vertigo” also won major Grammy awards, which can cause confusion between the two songs. “Beautiful Day” belongs to the earlier 2001 ceremony.
