Which U2 member plays bass guitar?
Answer
Adam Clayton
Answer
Adam Clayton
Adam Clayton is U2’s bass guitarist.
Clayton was born in Chinnor, Oxfordshire, England, in 1960 and moved with his family to County Dublin. He became a founding member of U2 after joining the group formed around Larry Mullen Jr.’s 1976 recruitment notice. Clayton’s bass lines have helped shape the band’s rhythmic foundation across its different musical eras.
Unlike the other members, Clayton did not initially have formal musical training, but he developed as a performer through U2’s early rehearsals and live shows. He has also contributed to the band’s arrangements and production decisions.
The roles of U2’s members are sometimes mixed up: Larry Mullen Jr. plays drums, The Edge plays guitar and keyboards, and Bono is the lead vocalist. Clayton’s bass is especially prominent in songs such as “New Year’s Day.”
