Which U2 album was released as a free digital download through iTunes in 2014?

Songs of Innocence was released as a free digital download through iTunes in 2014. Apple and U2 announced the distribution during an Apple media event on 9 September 2014.

The album was automatically placed in many users' iTunes libraries, making it instantly available to a very large audience. The unusual delivery method generated extensive discussion because some users did not expect the album to appear in their libraries.

Songs of Innocence was U2's thirteenth studio album. Its songs draw on the members' formative experiences, including childhood, family, music, and life in Dublin. A later companion album, Songs of Experience, was released in 2017.
