U2’s album Achtung Baby introduced the song “The Fly.”

Released on 18 November 1991, Achtung Baby was U2’s seventh studio album. It marked a major stylistic change, blending alternative rock, electronic textures, dance influences, and more experimental production.

“The Fly” was released as the album’s lead single in October 1991. Its distorted vocals, heavy use of effects, and unusual character helped signal the band’s new artistic direction after the more traditional rock sound of The Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum.

The album was recorded mainly at Hansa Studios in Berlin and at studios in Dublin. “The Fly” also became central to the Zoo TV era, during which Bono performed as the flamboyant alter ego MacPhisto.
