U2's song “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)” appears on the album Zooropa. The track is the album's penultimate song and was released as its third single in 1993.
Zooropa grew out of recording sessions connected to U2's ambitious Zoo TV Tour. Rather than simply completing another conventional album, the band experimented with electronic sounds, altered vocals, and fragmented media-inspired textures.
“Stay (Faraway, So Close!)” was written by U2 with additional songwriting credit for Bono and guitarist The Edge. Its music video was directed by Wim Wenders and connected visually with Wenders's film Faraway, So Close!, which also gave the song its subtitle.
Listeners sometimes place the song on Achtung Baby because the two albums were created in the same artistic period. Achtung Baby began the group's early-1990s transformation, while Zooropa extended that experimentation into a separate 1993 release.
