Which two clubs played the latest kickoff on Sunday during the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend?
Answer
Newcastle United and Liverpool
Newcastle United and Liverpool played the latest Sunday kickoff of the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
Their match was scheduled for Sunday 23 August 2026 at 16:30 BST. Newcastle hosted Liverpool, making it the final fixture of the Sunday programme after Manchester City versus Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion versus Aston Villa.
The opening weekend used three Sunday kickoff times: two matches at 14:00 and one at 16:30. This arrangement placed the Newcastle-Liverpool fixture in the closing Sunday television slot while still leaving Fulham versus Chelsea for Monday.
The other answer choices represent different parts of the round. Manchester City versus Bournemouth was an earlier Sunday game, Brentford versus Tottenham was Saturday’s late fixture, and Fulham versus Chelsea finished the entire round on Monday.
