The Tesla Model X was the first Tesla model to offer a factory-built seven-seat configuration.
The Model X is a battery-electric sport utility vehicle introduced by Tesla in 2015. Its taller body and three-row interior allowed it to carry more passengers than the Model S sedan. Tesla offered seating configurations including five, six, and seven seats, depending on the arrangement selected.
The vehicle also introduced distinctive falcon-wing rear doors, which lift upward using articulated hinges and sensors. Those doors are separate from the seating fact: the Model X’s seven-seat option came from its SUV-style cabin and three-row layout.
The Model Y later offered a seven-seat version in some markets, but it was introduced after the Model X. The Model 3 has a five-seat configuration, while the Model S has generally been sold as a five-seat sedan with optional additional seating in some earlier versions.
