On what date did Tesla officially open Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg?

The story behind the answer

Tesla officially opened Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg on 22 March 2022.

The opening ceremony took place at the factory site in Grünheide, Brandenburg, near Berlin. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz attended the event, where Tesla delivered the first German-built Model Y vehicles to customers.

Construction began after Tesla received final environmental approval from Brandenburg authorities in March 2022. The plant became Tesla’s first European facility to manufacture complete vehicles, although Tesla had previously operated European sales, service, and delivery infrastructure.

The factory’s name can cause confusion because it is commonly called Gigafactory Berlin, while its official designation includes Brandenburg. Its initial production focus was the Model Y, with battery manufacturing planned as part of the site’s longer-term development.
