Which Tesla model introduced the company’s distinctive falcon-wing rear doors?

The story behind the answer

The Tesla Model X introduced Tesla’s distinctive falcon-wing rear doors.

Tesla unveiled the Model X in 2012 and began deliveries in 2015. Its rear doors are hinged in two sections and open upward, allowing the doors to rise within a relatively narrow side space. Sensors help the doors adjust their movement to nearby obstacles and ceilings.

The design was intended to improve access to the second and third rows of the seven-seat electric SUV. It also became one of the vehicle’s most recognizable features. Falcon-wing doors are different from conventional gull-wing doors because their articulated hinges and two-part movement are designed to reduce the sideways clearance needed when opening.
