Hungary scored 27 goals at the 1954 FIFA World Cup, the most by one team in a single tournament. Hungary reached the final and scored heavily throughout the competition before losing 3–2 to West Germany.
The Hungarian side opened with an extraordinary 9–0 victory over South Korea and followed it with an 8–3 win against West Germany in the group stage. Sándor Kocsis led the team with 11 goals, while Ferenc Puskás scored four despite missing part of the knockout phase through injury.
Hungary’s final total came from five matches. Its 27 goals remain a benchmark for tournament attacking output, although later World Cups have used different numbers of matches and team formats.
