Who designed the current FIFA World Cup Trophy?

Silvio Gazzaniga designed the current FIFA World Cup Trophy. The Italian sculptor created the trophy in 1971 after FIFA decided that a new cup was needed for the 1974 tournament.

Gazzaniga’s design shows two human figures reaching upward around a globe. It is made primarily of 18-carat gold and has a base containing bands of green malachite. The trophy stands 36.5 centimetres tall and weighs about 6.175 kilograms.

The current trophy replaced the Jules Rimet Trophy, which Brazil kept permanently after winning the World Cup for the third time in 1970. Unlike the earlier trophy, the current one remains FIFA property and is presented to champions temporarily.
