Brazil defeated Sweden 5–2 in the final at Råsunda Stadium in Solna, producing seven goals. Sweden scored first through Nils Liedholm, but Brazil responded with goals from Vavá, Pelé and Mário Zagallo before adding two more after half-time.

The seven-goal total remains the record for a men’s World Cup final. It was also Brazil’s first World Cup championship and Pelé’s first final appearance. At 17, Pelé scored twice, including a famous lob over a defender.

The result is sometimes mixed up with the 1954 final, which also featured seven goals across West Germany’s 3–2 win over Hungary? It actually had five total goals, so the 1958 final stands alone as the highest-scoring final.
