Brazil beat Sweden 5–2 in the 1958 FIFA World Cup final.
The final was played on 29 June 1958 at Råsunda Stadium in Solna, Sweden. Sweden scored first through Nils Liedholm, but Brazil quickly equalised through Vavá and took control before half-time.
Vavá scored twice, while Pelé also scored twice, including a celebrated lob over a Swedish defender. Mário Zagallo added Brazil’s other goal. Agne Simonsson scored Sweden’s second goal late in the match.
The result gave Brazil their first World Cup title. It is sometimes remembered as Pelé’s breakthrough tournament, but the final was also notable for Brazil’s coordinated attacking line and their blue change strip, worn because Sweden also used yellow shirts.
