Which team led the first 2026–27 Premier League table after beating Aston Villa 4–0?

Brighton & Hove Albion led the first 2026–27 Premier League table after beating Aston Villa 4–0.

Brighton’s opening-weekend victory produced a goal difference of plus four, the best in the division after the first round. That margin placed Brighton above Arsenal and Brentford, who each won 3–0, and above the other opening-day winners.

The match took place at the Amex Stadium on Sunday, 23 August 2026. Brighton’s clean sheet was as important to its early position as its four goals, because league tables rank teams first by points and then use goal difference when clubs are level.

This was an early table rather than a final-season ranking. Brighton had three points after one match, so the position described the standings immediately after the opening round, not an assertion that the club eventually won the league.
