Which team led the 2026–27 Premier League after the opening weekend?
Answer
Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton & Hove Albion led the 2026–27 Premier League after the opening weekend.
Brighton began the campaign by defeating Aston Villa 4–0 at home on Sunday 23 August 2026. The four-goal victory gave them a goal difference of plus four, the best record in the opening-round table.
Arsenal and Brentford also won by three goals, but neither matched Brighton’s margin. Arsenal beat Coventry City 3–0, while Brentford defeated Tottenham Hotspur by the same score.
Brighton’s result was also the biggest home win of the season at that point. The opening-weekend table contained three points for each of the nine winning teams, so goal difference separated the early leaders.
