Which team led 4–0 by half-time against Aston Villa in the 2026–27 Premier League opener?
Answer
Brighton & Hove Albion
Answer
Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton & Hove Albion led Aston Villa 4–0 by half-time in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
Brighton scored four times in the first 31 minutes at the Amex Stadium on Sunday, 23 August 2026. The rapid start created an unassailable advantage and ultimately produced a 4–0 victory, the largest win of the opening weekend.
Jack Hinshelwood scored twice in a 79-second burst. Maxim De Cuyper added another goal, and Aston Villa defender Victor Lindelöf scored an own goal. Villa’s task became even harder when João Gomes was sent off five minutes before half-time.
Brighton’s first-half total also had historical significance within Premier League opening rounds. They became only the fourth side to score four first-half goals in a Matchweek 1 fixture, following Bolton Wanderers in 2001, Manchester United in 2007, and Liverpool in 2020. The result was therefore both a striking match score and a rare statistical achievement.
