Newcastle United hosted Liverpool at 16:30 on Sunday in the 2026–27 Premier League opening round.
The match was scheduled for Sunday 23 August 2026 at St James' Park. It was the final Sunday fixture, following Manchester City versus AFC Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion versus Aston Villa, both listed for 14:00.
St James' Park is Newcastle United's home stadium in Newcastle upon Tyne. Its listed capacity for the season was 52,729, making it one of the largest grounds involved in the opening round.
This fixture is distinct from Manchester City's simultaneous home match against Bournemouth and Brighton's meeting with Aston Villa. It also should not be confused with the following day's Fulham–Chelsea game, which concluded the opening match round on Monday evening.
