Newcastle United drew against Liverpool on Sunday in the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The match was played at St James’ Park on 23 August 2026 and was scheduled for 16:30 BST. It was the last Sunday fixture before the opening match round concluded with Fulham against Chelsea on Monday.
Newcastle and Liverpool played an entertaining 2–2 draw. The result gave each side one point and made the fixture the opening weekend’s highest-profile draw between established Premier League clubs.
The game also marked the beginning of new managerial eras. Matthias Jaissle was Newcastle’s manager, while Andoni Iraola had taken charge of Liverpool after Arne Slot’s departure.
