Manchester City defeated Bournemouth 2–1 in a comeback during the 2026–27 Premier League opening round.
The match was played at the Etihad Stadium on 23 August 2026. Bournemouth took the lead and held it for much of the contest, but Manchester City turned the game around late to begin the season with three points.
Marcus Tavernier equalised for City in the 84th minute. Joško Gvardiol then scored in the second minute of stoppage time, completing the comeback and changing the result from a home draw into a 2–1 victory.
The match was a useful reminder that the score after most of the game has been played is not necessarily decisive. Bournemouth’s early advantage disappeared during the final minutes, while City’s late attacking pressure produced two goals and a winning start.
