Manchester City defeated Bournemouth 2–1 after falling behind during the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The match was played at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, 23 August 2026. Bournemouth took the lead and stayed ahead for much of the contest, but Manchester City produced a late comeback to win.
Marcus Tavernier equalised in the 84th minute, and Joško Gvardiol scored the winning goal in the second minute of stoppage time. The turnaround gave City three points in their first league match of the season.
Erling Haaland did not score in the match. It was the first time he had failed to score on the Premier League opening weekend, a notable statistic given his prolific record in the competition.
