Manchester City came from behind to beat Bournemouth 2–1 in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
The match was played on Sunday, 23 August 2026. Bournemouth scored first and held the lead for much of the contest, but Manchester City turned the match around late in the game.
Marcus Tavernier equalised for City in the 84th minute, and Joško Gvardiol scored the winning goal in the second minute of stoppage time. The late turnaround gave City three points despite Bournemouth taking the initial lead.
The result was one of the opening weekend’s most dramatic finishes. It differed from the round’s larger wins because the winning margin was only one goal, but the timing of City’s goals made the match especially notable.
