Which Swedish city hosted the first Winter Paralympic Games in 1976?

The story behind the answer

Örnsköldsvik hosted the first Winter Paralympic Games in 1976.

The Swedish city staged the inaugural Winter Paralympics from 21 to 28 February 1976. The event was originally known as the Winter Olympic Games for the Disabled and featured athletes competing in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ice sledge racing and wheelchair curling demonstrations.

The Games helped establish a winter counterpart to the Summer Paralympics, which had begun officially in Rome in 1960. More than 250 athletes from 16 countries participated, showing that Paralympic competition could be adapted to snow and ice sports as well as track, pool and court events.

Örnsköldsvik is sometimes confused with Innsbruck, which hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics and later the 1984 Winter Paralympics. The first Winter Paralympics, however, were held in Sweden eight years earlier.
