A Paralympic sitting volleyball team can have a maximum of six players on court.
Sitting volleyball is an adapted form of volleyball in which athletes compete seated on the floor. Players must keep part of their torso in contact with the court when playing the ball, and the net is lower than in standing volleyball. Teams use rotations, serves, blocks and attacks under rules designed for fast movement close to the ground.
The sport entered the Paralympic programme at Arnhem 1980. It is played by both men’s and women’s teams. Six players is also the standard on-court number in standing volleyball, but sitting volleyball’s court dimensions and net height are different, so the two formats should not be treated as identical.
