What is the name of the Paralympic sport in which athletes compete while seated in wheelchairs with a foil, épée or sabre?

The story behind the answer

Wheelchair fencing is the Paralympic sport contested with foil, épée and sabre while athletes remain seated in wheelchairs.

Competitors’ wheelchairs are fixed to a frame on the piste, allowing them to reach and attack while their lower bodies stay in position. Fencers must maintain contact with the chair and use their upper-body movement, distance and timing to score. The target area and rules vary by weapon, as in Olympic fencing.

Wheelchair fencing was included at the first official Paralympic Games in Rome in 1960. It is different from wheelchair rugby, a team ball sport, and from sitting volleyball, where athletes compete on the floor beside a net. The sport is governed internationally by the World Abilitysport federation.
