What is the name of the Paralympic sport combining cycling and running in a three-part race?

The story behind the answer

Para triathlon is the Paralympic sport combining swimming, cycling and running in a three-part race.

Competitors complete the disciplines consecutively, moving through transitions between the swim, bike and run sections. The event uses classifications and approved adaptations so athletes with different impairments can compete, including handcycles, tricycles, tandem bicycles and running prostheses where appropriate.

Para triathlon made its Paralympic debut at the Rio 2016 Games. The standard Paralympic race consists of a 750-metre swim, a 20-kilometre bike section and a 5-kilometre run, although course layouts and conditions can vary.

Para triathlon is sometimes called paratriathlon, but both names refer to the same sport. It should not be confused with para duathlon, which replaces swimming with an additional running segment and is not the standard Paralympic format.
