DC Studios produces the DC series Lanterns alongside Warner Bros. Television.
DC Studios is the Warner Bros. Discovery subsidiary responsible for developing and producing the current DC Universe. Lanterns is one of the projects created for the new shared continuity led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who serve as the studio's co-CEOs and co-chairs.
Warner Bros. Television is the series' other listed production company. The partnership places Lanterns within the established Warner Bros. television production system while giving DC Studios direct creative oversight of its DCU continuity.
The series is based on DC Comics' Green Lantern characters, particularly Hal Jordan and John Stewart. It follows the pair through an Earth-based murder investigation that leads to a broader mystery. The combination of superhero mythology and detective drama is central to the show's identity.
DC Studios should not be confused with DC Entertainment, the earlier corporate unit associated with DC intellectual property. Lanterns belongs to the newer DCU initiative, which began with the Chapter One: Gods and Monsters slate. HBO ordered the series for eight episodes, with Max also expected to carry it as a streaming title.
