St James' Park was scheduled to host Newcastle United versus Liverpool in the 2026–27 Premier League opening weekend.
The match was planned for Sunday, 23 August 2026, with Newcastle United listed as the home side. Liverpool were scheduled to travel to the famous Newcastle ground for one of the opening round’s highest-profile fixtures.
St James’ Park has been Newcastle United’s home for more than a century and is located in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. Its elevated position and large stands make it one of the most recognisable stadiums in English football.
The venue is sometimes confused with Liverpool’s Anfield because both clubs have famous, historic home grounds and passionate support. In this fixture, however, Newcastle’s home status determines the answer. Liverpool’s Anfield would have been the venue only if the fixture had been listed in the reverse order.
