Which sport made its Paralympic debut at Rio 2016 alongside para canoe?
Answer
Para triathlon
Answer
Para triathlon
Para triathlon made its Paralympic debut at the Rio 2016 Games.
The Paralympic triathlon consists of swimming, cycling and running, with distances adapted from the standard Olympic triathlon. Rio athletes completed a 750-metre swim, a 20-kilometre bike section and a 5-kilometre run, for a total race distance of 25.75 kilometres.
Athletes compete in sport classes designed around the effects of their impairments. Depending on the class, competitors may use handcycles, tandem bicycles, prosthetic equipment or assistance during transitions.
Para canoe also debuted at Rio, so the two sports are often mentioned together when discussing that programme. Para triathlon is governed internationally by World Triathlon, formerly known as the International Triathlon Union.
