Which sport did J.K. Rowling invent for the Harry Potter universe?
Answer
Quidditch
Answer
Quidditch
J.K. Rowling invented Quidditch for the Harry Potter universe.
Quidditch is a fictional team sport played by witches and wizards on flying broomsticks. Two teams compete using several balls: a Quaffle for scoring, Bludgers that disrupt players, and a Golden Snitch. The Seeker who catches the Snitch traditionally earns 150 points and usually ends the match, although the result depends on the score.
Rowling has said the idea for the game came from a period when she was thinking about a sport played at Hogwarts. In the novels, Quidditch helps establish wizarding culture and provides a recurring setting for rivalry, friendship and school competition.
The sport's name is distinct from other fictional games in the series, including wizard chess and Gobstones. Real-world versions of Muggle Quidditch, later commonly called quadball, were inspired by Rowling's fictional game but use adapted rules and equipment.
