Which song is track 10 on Metallica’s The Black Album?
Answer
The God That Failed
Answer
The God That Failed
“The God That Failed” is track 10 on Metallica’s The Black Album.
The song appears late in the album’s sequence, between “Of Wolf and Man” and “My Friend of Misery.” It is one of the record’s darker, heavier compositions and deals with religious belief, loss, and disillusionment.
James Hetfield wrote the lyrics, drawing partly on personal experiences involving his parents’ Christian Science beliefs and their rejection of conventional medical treatment. The subject gives the song a more autobiographical dimension than many of the album’s broader anthems.
Track numbers are easy to confuse because “The God That Failed” is not one of the album’s five commercial singles. “The Unforgiven,” “Wherever I May Roam,” and “Nothing Else Matters” received much greater radio and video exposure, while the deeper album cuts are often remembered by title rather than position.
