“Crazy in Love” gave Beyoncé and Jay-Z their first Billboard Hot 100 number-one collaboration.
Released in 2003, the song was Beyoncé’s debut solo single and featured a guest rap by Jay-Z. Its production was built around a prominent horn sample from the Chi-Lites’ 1970 song “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So).” Rich Harrison produced the track and helped create its instantly recognizable brass-driven arrangement.
The single topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks in the United States. Its energetic music video, directed by Jake Nava, reinforced Beyoncé’s emergence as a solo performer after her success with Destiny’s Child.
The song is sometimes confused with “’03 Bonnie & Clyde,” which was an earlier Beyoncé-and-Jay-Z collaboration but did not reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100. “Drunk in Love,” from Beyoncé’s 2013 album, also became a major hit, but “Crazy in Love” was their first joint chart-topper.
