Which song features the line 'I can't wait to be king'?

The song featuring the line “I can’t wait to be king” is “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King.”

The number appears early in The Lion King, when young Simba imagines the freedom, spectacle, and authority he will enjoy as ruler of the Pride Lands. Nala joins him, while Zazu struggles to control the increasingly elaborate performance.

Elton John composed the music and Tim Rice wrote the lyrics. In the 1994 film, Jason Weaver provides young Simba’s singing voice, with Laura Williams singing for young Nala and Rowan Atkinson contributing as Zazu. The song is an energetic contrast to the film’s darker later events.

It is commonly confused with “Circle of Life,” “Hakuna Matata,” or “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” which are also major songs from the movie. Their themes differ: this one is specifically Simba’s impatient declaration about his future kingship.
