Which skyscraper in Warsaw was presented to Poland as a Soviet gift in 1955?

The story behind the answer

Warsaw’s Palace of Culture and Science was presented to Poland as a Soviet gift in 1955.

The monumental skyscraper was constructed between 1952 and 1955 during the period when Poland was part of the Soviet sphere of influence. Soviet leader Joseph Stalin proposed the gift, and Soviet architects and builders participated in its design and construction. The building’s architecture combines socialist-realist monumentalism with forms inspired by historic Polish architecture.

At 237 metres including its spire, it became a dominant feature of Warsaw’s skyline and remains Poland’s tallest building by architectural height. Its large complex contains offices, cultural venues, educational facilities, museums, and a congress hall.

The tower is politically controversial because many Poles associate it with Soviet domination, while others regard it as an important architectural and cultural landmark. It is commonly shortened in Polish to PKiN, based on its Polish name.
