Sydney Tower is the skyscraper known for the observation attraction called the Sydney Tower Eye.
The tower is the tallest structure in Sydney and the second-tallest observation tower in the Southern Hemisphere, according to commonly cited descriptions. Its public observation level offers panoramic views across the city, including Sydney Harbour and the Blue Mountains on clear days.
The tower forms part of the Westfield Sydney shopping complex in the central business district. Construction began in the 1970s, and the tower opened to the public in 1981. Its design includes a tall shaft supporting a distinctive golden pod near the top.
Sydney Tower is also called Centrepoint Tower, after the shopping center and precinct with which it was historically associated. The Sydney Tower Eye name refers specifically to its observation experience rather than to a separate building.
