Lakhta Center became Europe’s tallest building when it opened in Saint Petersburg.
The mixed-use complex rises on the Gulf of Finland and is dominated by a 462-metre tower. Its twisting, flame-like form narrows toward the top and reflects changing light across its glass façade.
The tower became the tallest building in Europe, surpassing Moscow’s Federation Tower. It also became the northernmost supertall skyscraper in the world.
Lakhta Center serves as the headquarters of Gazprom and includes offices, public spaces, a planetarium and an observation deck. Its height is often confused with the height of the wider complex, but the 462-metre figure refers to the main tower.
