Axl Rose temporarily fronted AC/DC on the 2016 Rock or Bust World Tour.
The change happened after Brian Johnson was advised to stop performing because of the risk of serious hearing damage. AC/DC postponed several dates, then announced that Rose, the Guns N’ Roses singer, would perform the rescheduled shows and the remaining European dates.
Rose’s AC/DC stint ran from 7 May to 20 September 2016. It was historically notable because he became the first lead vocalist other than Brian Johnson to perform with AC/DC since the band completed the Highway to Hell Tour in January 1980, following Bon Scott’s death.
The arrangement was temporary rather than a permanent replacement. Johnson later returned to AC/DC, and the band’s subsequent Power Up era again featured him as lead singer. Myles Kennedy, Sammy Hagar and Steven Tyler have all been associated with major rock vocal roles, but none fronted AC/DC during this tour.
