George Young was the older brother of Angus and Malcolm Young and co-produced several early AC/DC albums.
Young was already an established musician before AC/DC formed. He was a member of the Easybeats, the Australian group behind “Friday on My Mind,” and later formed a songwriting and production partnership with Harry Vanda. That partnership became central to AC/DC’s early recordings.
Vanda and Young produced albums including High Voltage, T.N.T., Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Let There Be Rock and Powerage. George also helped shape the band’s early sound and occasionally played bass during its formative period.
A common mix-up is Stevie Young, who later joined AC/DC as Malcolm’s touring and permanent guitar replacement. Alex Young was another older Young brother involved in music, but George was the sibling associated with producing AC/DC’s early albums.
