Shirley Bassey performed the James Bond title songs for Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker.
Bassey first recorded “Goldfinger” for the 1964 film of the same name. The song became one of the defining themes of the Bond series, helped by its powerful orchestration and Bassey’s dramatic vocal performance. She later returned for “Diamonds Are Forever” in 1971 and “Moonraker” in 1979.
Her three Bond themes make her the singer most closely associated with the classic series. The songs were written by different creative teams, although the Bond producers retained the grand orchestral style that audiences expected from the franchise.
Bassey is sometimes confused with other major Bond-theme singers, including Nancy Sinatra, who performed “You Only Live Twice,” and Lulu, who sang “The Man with the Golden Gun.” Bassey’s distinction is the number of official Bond title songs she recorded.
